A Young man is interceded by the Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H&H.P)

A young man was on his deathbed when the Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H&H.P) came, sat near him, and told him to recite two kalimas (Shahadatain). But the youth could not speak. The Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H&H.P) enquired if his mother was present? A woman sitting near his head said, “Yes, I am his mother.”
The Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H&H.P) asked, “Are you displeased with him?”
‘Yes, O Prophet (P.B.U.H&H.P), we have not spoken to each other since the last six years.’
The Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H&H.P) asked this woman to forgive her son. Thus at the Prophet’s instance she forgave his mistakes and was reconciled. At once the young man was able to recite the Kalima al-Shahadat.
The Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H&H.P) asked him, “What do you see, at this moment.” “O Prophet of Allah a dark and smelly man has got hold of me and is not leaving me.”
The Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H&H.P) told him to recite the following Du’a:

يامن يقبل اليسير ويعفوعن الكثير اقبل مني اليسيرواعف عني الكثيرانك انت الغفور الرحيم

“Ya man Yaqbalul yasīra wa y’afo ‘Anil Kathīra Iqbal minnil Yasīra Wa ‘Āfo ‘Annil Kathīra.”
Then asked, “Now what do you see?” He replied, “A fair complexioned man, handsome and fragrant, is moving towards me.”
The Holy Prophet said, “Keep repeating this Du’a.” When the youth repeated this Du’a he said “O Prophet of Allah (P.B.U.H&H.P)both of them have disappeared from my sight.” After this the face of the Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H&H.P) was illuminated with joy. He said, “O Allah forgives the sins of this young man.” Then the youth passed away. (Bihār al-Anwār)

This tradition shows how difficult are the last moments of the Āq al-Walidayn. He leaves this world in disbelief and remains, forever, in Divine punishment. The tutor of Kalima for this young man was the Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H&H.P). In spite of this his tongue did not move till his mother forgives him. The blessings of the Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H&H.P) and the forgiveness of his mother brought salvation for this youth.

Not Even For a Mountain of Gold

When the early Muslims were subjected to ill treatment and persecution, 83 of them migrated to Ethiopia, led by Ja'far bin Abu Talib. The infidels of Makkah learnt that the Muslims were having a comfortable refuge in Ethiopia. They sent a delegation comprising of Amr bin Al-Aas and Abdullah bin Rabia to Negus, the King of Ethiopia, loaded with invaluable gifts for the king and his ministers, and with a mission to seek repatriation of the Muslims.
After having presented the gifts, they approached the King. At his court, Negus was told by Amr bin Al-Aas that the Muslims believed in a Prophet who spoke derogatorily about Jesus. Turning to Ja'far bin Abu Talib, Negus enquired:
'What do you say about Jesus?"
Ja'far recited the verse from Surah An-Nisa:
"The Messiah, Jesus Son of Mary, was Allah's apostle and His word, which He cast to Mary and a spirit from Him."
Negus picked a piece of wood from the ground and said: "By God, Jesus was not a bit higher than what you have said, not higher than even the measure of this piece." And then he turned to Amr bin Al-Aas and said:
"I am not going to harm them, even if I were given a mountain of gold. Take away all the gifts you have brought, for God did not receive any bribe from me when He blessed me with this kingdom, nor did He pay any heed to what others said about me when He decided to raise me to this status."

The Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H&H.P) and Education

Once the Prophet (P.B.U.H&H.P) entered the Mosque before the prayer time. He found two groups in the Mosque. One group was busy with its own act of worship; some were reading the Qur'an while the others were supplicating. The other group was in a corner busy learning. They learnt how to read and write and discussed the teachings of Islam and their application to their daily lives. Looking at both, the Prophet (P.B.U.H&H.P) said: "They are both engaged in useful pursuits. But I am a teacher. I shall join the group assembled to learn." And so he (P.B.U.H&H.P) sat with the group of students.

The Guard in Prayer

Jabir bin Abdullah says that in the Battle of Dhat-urRuqa' the Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H&H.P) asked his companions to rest for the night on a plain surrounded by the mountains.
"Who will volunteer to guard us tonight?" the Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H&H.P) asked.
Immediately, two companions, namely Ammar bin Yathir and Abbad bin Bishr came forward and volunteered to stand guard while the army of Islam slept.
As they stationed themselves at a strategic spot on the terrain, Abbad said: "Let us divide the night, I shall keep the vigil in the first half, and you in the second." So Ammar slept while Abbad remained vigilant, engaged in nightly prayers. In the middle of his prayers, an enemy soldier stealthily came near and shot an arrow, which hit Abbad. He pulled out the arrow and continued his prayers. Another arrow hit him causing a further injury. Abbad pulled it out again and remained steadfast. When the third arrow wounded him further, Abbad hastily bowed down in prostration to complete his prayers. He awakened Ammar and related to him what had transpired.
Ammar began to tend his wounds and wipe off blood from his body, and then asked: "Why did you not wake me when you were first hit?"
Abbad said: "I was in my prayers and I did not feel like abandoning my communication with Allah. When I felt terribly weakened by the third blow, I bowed down to complete my prayers. Had it not been for the Holy Prophet's (P.B.U.H&H.P) order to stand guard, I would not have disturbed your sleep.”

Imam Ali (A.S)

In the battle of ditch (Khandaq), the Muslims dug a ditch around themselves for their defense, so that the enemy could not get across. A man from the enemy side called Amr bin Abdawud who was known for his strength, courage and art of fighting managed to get across the ditch.
All the Muslims were terrified to fight him and only Imam Ali (A.S) came forward to fight this man.
There was a fierce fight until at last Imam Ali (A.S) threw Amr down onto the ground and mounted his chest ready to kill him. Just as Imam Ali (A.S) was about to kill this enemy of Islam, he spat on the face of our Imam (A.S).
Everybody was certain that because of this insult, Amr would meet his death even faster still, but to their amazement, Imam Ali (A.S) moved from Amr's chest and walked away.
Amr attacked Imam (A.S) again and after a short while, Imam (A.S) again overpowered Amr and killed him.
After the battle was over people asked Imam Ali (A.S) the reason why he had spared Amr's life when he had first overpowered him. To which Imam (A.S) replied that if he had killed him then it would have not been only for the sake of Allah but also for the satisfaction of his anger and so he let him free.
Then Imam (A.S) controlled his anger and killed Amr purely for the sake of Allah.
Moral: Although your intention may be pure to begin with it can very easily change so always make sure you do things for the sake of Allah only.
